What put Lake Garda at risk in September 2018?

In September 2018, the waters of Lake Garda were threatened by a potential environmental disaster. An incident, seemingly trivial but with possible serious consequences, took place when a diesel tank was not properly closed.

This negligence led to the expansion of hydrocarbon into a nearby irrigation ditch, which had a direct path to the lake, putting the lake ecosystem and water quality at risk.

The amount of diesel fuel spilled amounted to about 2,000 liters. This large amount could have had a devastating impact on the lake’s flora and fauna, not to mention the possible repercussions on tourism and recreational activities, which are vital to the local economy.

The proximity of the canal to Lake Garda has made the situation particularly critical. Lake Garda, with its natural beauty and historical importance, is one of Italy’s main tourist attractions and an invaluable natural heritage.

Basilicata | Remediation of Basins Contaminated by Viscous Oils

In 2024, a remediation project was carried out at an industrial facility in the Basilicata region following the contamination of containment basins caused by leaks of highly viscous oils from a processing system. The characteristics of the contaminant, combined with the complexity of the affected area, required a tailored approach capable of delivering effective results in a challenging industrial environment. The objective was to remove the accumulated hydrocarbons while improving site conditions through a solution specifically designed to address the unique requirements of the application.

Santa Margherita Ligure | Environmental emergency training and simulations

As part of an environmental protection initiative focused on the port and coastal areas of Santa Margherita Ligure, FoamFlex spill response kits supplied by Test1 S.r.l. Società Benefit were deployed to support the rapid management of accidental hydrocarbon spills in marine environments. The project was developed within a particularly sensitive coastal setting, where vessel traffic, marina operations, and maintenance activities can create a constant risk of fuel, lubricant, and oil contamination. The initiative combined practical preparedness measures with regular training activities, helping strengthen local response capabilities and improve environmental protection across the harbor and surrounding coastal waters.
